WCH Cancer Program Receives Award

The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACOS) has granted its 2008 CoC Outstanding Achievement Award to the Wooster Community Hospital Cancer Program, one of just 95 facilities granted this distinction out of more than 1,400 CoC-accredited programs across the nation.

The Outstanding Achievement Award is designed to recognize cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients.  Earlier this year, the CoC awarded the WCH Cancer Program “Accreditation with Commendation,” a mark recognizing excellence in care.  The Outstanding Achievement Award further recognizes the WCH Cancer Program’s achievements.

The WCH Cancer Program is one of just 2 cancer programs so recognized in the northeast part of Ohio, and one of just 9 in the state of Ohio.  The Cancer Program is administered by the Cancer Committee, which is comprised of WCH staff members and several physicians.

1 The American College of Surgeons (ACS) Commission on Cancer has designated Wooster Community Hospital's Cancer Program as an Approved Program. Approved Programs are involved with prevention, early diagnosis, pretreatment evaluation, staging, optimal treatment, rehabilitation, and support services.

1 Recognizing that cancer is a complex group of diseases, the Commission on Cancer Program Standards promote consultation among surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists, and other cancer specialists. This multidisciplinary cooperation results in improved patient care.

1 One of the keys to the success for a Commission on Cancer Approved Cancer Program is that the hospital must provide state-of-the-art pretreatment evaluation, staging, treatment, and clinical follow-up for cancer patients seen at the facility for primary, secondary, or tertiary care.

Sometimes when you want it the least, your body needs it the most. When you feel tired, worn out and stressed out, the last thing you feel like doing is driving down to your health club for an intense workout. The fact is, this is exactly what you should do. 1
