Our Care and Services

Cancer Care

The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer has granted Wooster Community Hospital’s Cancer Program Accreditation with Commendation. Accreditation with Commendation is limited to those programs that are involved with prevention, early diagnosis, pretreatment evaluation, staging, optimal treatment, rehabilitation, and support services.  One of the keys to success for a Commission on Cancer Approved Program is that the hospital must provide state-of-the-art care for cancer patients seen at the facility for primary, secondary, or tertiary care.

We at Wooster Community Hospital recognize that cancer is a complex group of diseases. The Commission on Cancer Program Standards promote consultation among surgeons, cancer specialists, and staff. This multidisciplinary cooperation results in improved care for you.

Emergency Care

The Emergency Department at Wooster Community Hospital is a specialty area providing medical services for urgent situations concerning illnesses or injuries. We have physicians and nurses trained and certified in Emergency Medicine, as well as a modern facility allowing us to provide quality care in a personal manner. Working as a team, this group of dedicated professionals demonstrate on a daily basis their training and experience in trauma, pediatrics, and critical care to meet a wide array of patient services.

When complex procedures such as neuro surgery or invasive cardiology surgery that are not performed at Wooster Community Hospital are necessary, patients may be transferred to a tertiary care center in Cleveland, Akron, Canton, or Columbus. A tertiary care center is only minutes away since a heliport is on the campus of Wooster Community Hospital and numerous land transport services are available.

Home Health Services

If you or someone you know needs help recovering from an illness or injury, Wooster Community Hospital's Home Health Department is at your service. Our professional team of nurses, therapists, social workers and home health aides provides in-home care to patients and families in Wayne, Holmes, and Ashland counties. Our goal is to offer compassionate care while helping patients regain as much independence as possible.

Home Health Services are available to individuals who need skilled care due to an ongoing condition, disability or recent illness. Hospitalization is not required before receiving care. To qualify for our Home Health program, the patient must be under a physician's care and must generally be confined to their home. This means your condition does not permit leaving the home on a regular basis or leaving the home is a hardship.

Intensive Care Unit

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Wooster Community Hospital is a specialized unit featuring all private one-bed rooms that are custom designed to address the individual needs of our patients. The ICU is equipped with specialized state of the art equipment that allows us to provide care to a variety of critically ill patients. Our intensive care nurses are specially trained to provide personalized, compassionate care to the critically ill and their families. All Registered Nurses working in the ICU are trained in advanced cardiac life support techniques.

Joint Center

The Joint Center is a dedicated floor in our new patient tower specifically designed for those who choose the best experience and clinical outcome while having their Hip or Knee Replacement.  Our philosophy is based on a wellness model that allows the caregiver, who we affectionately call the coach, to help facilitate your return to an active lifestyle.  Our Joint Center features many hotel-like accommodations with private rooms, a large inviting rehab area and a private dining room.

After meeting with your physician, your pre-educational meeting and dinner are arranged so that our Rehabilitation Experts and Nursing staff can guide you through every aspect of your care.  We have found that your individualized care plan in a group setting to be very beneficial in your overall recovery.  Contact Ann Bailey, the Manager of the Joint Center, at 330-202-5134 and come see why The Joint Commission awarded our Joint Center its highest certification.

Medical & Surgical Unit

Wooster Community Hospital offers a Medical/Surgical area that delivers care to a variety of medical and surgical patients. Our highly skilled nursing staff provides physical and emotional care to patients and their families. Several Registered Nurses are certified in Oncology Nursing and specialize in caring for cancer patients.

Another area of expertise for the Medical/Surgical Area is caring for patients who have undergone Orthopedic Surgery for joint replacement or to repair bone injuries. Our nursing staff works closely with physical therapists in developing a plan of care designed to return orthopedic surgery patients to an independent lifestyle.

Neurodiagnostic Testing Services are performed by Registered Technologists and Neurologists.  Testing in our Neurodiagnostic Lab is performed with confidence and state-of-the-art digital equipment.

Patients with neurological conditions such as altered mental status, seizures, stroke, dementia, carpal tunnel syndrome, and more are commonly referred to our facility for testing.

Neurodiagnostic testing includes EEG (Electroencephalogram), NCS (Nerve Conduction Study), EMG (Electromyogram), and TCD (Transcranial Doppler).

All of these tests require a physician’s order.

Nutrition & Diabetes

The Nutrition & Diabetes Services Department offers nutrition education, medical nutrition therapy, and Diabetes Self-Management Education.  Our qualified staff of nurse and dietitians provide support and guidance for a wide variety of nutritional needs.
