This was the headline of a recent story in the Akron Beacon Journal newspaper. The article presented data that had been made available by Medicare related to patient satisfaction with area hospitals. This is public information that is now asked of all Medicare patients via patient satisfaction surveys.
The article compared twelve major hospitals in the Summit, Stark, Cuyahoga and Wayne Counties, and presented their scores (by percentage) for each of ten patient survey questions.
We were pleased to note that Wooster Community Hospital had the highest overall score, was the top scoring hospital in 7 out of 10 questions and was the only hospital which met or exceeded the national average score in every category. The national average score included surveys of approximately 2,500 hospitals from across the U.S.
So patients apparently are very happy with Wooster Community Hospital and we are proud to share their opinion, and this data, with you.
Wooster Community Hospital
Your Community, Your Hospital, Your Choice.
A Message From the C.E.O.
Bill Sheron, C.E.O.
Wooster Community Hospital is proud to be recognized as one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Thomson Healthcare. This award is based on a set of objective measures that reflect highly effective and balanced performance across the whole organization. These benchmark measures include patient outcomes, patient safety, national treatment standards, efficiency and financial stability. We were one of only 20 hospitals selected from over 1,100 across the country in the medium size community hospital category.
To borrow from the information that accompanies this award, being named a 100 Top Hospitals National winner means:
The hospital’s board of trustees, management, medical staff and care employees are working together to provide high quality care and greater value to the community.
As a major employer, the hospital is financially strong and can pay good salaries, support the local economy and invest in new technologies to improve care.
As a high-performing business, the hospital executes and measures performance to improve clinical quality and efficiency of services. Some of the business practices may be models that could be helpful to other business leaders in the community.
As a provider of care that is attempting to improve the health status of citizens, the community has a hospital to be proud of – no matter what its size or category.
We thank our dedicated Board, committed Medical Staff and excellent Employees for making this achievement possible. Thanks also to the many patients who continue to choose Wooster Community Hospital.

This rating, when combined with our recent award as one of Thomson Healthcare’s 100 Top Hospitals in the nation, and one of the top 20 nationwide in our size category, is an honor we don’t take lightly.
