Breast Cancer Awareness Days - October 18-19th

Wooster Community Hospital is proud to present Breast Cancer Awareness Days on October 18 and October 19, 2012. The goal of the Thursday evening and Friday morning sessions is to provide information on diagnosis, treatments, and care for patients with breast cancer to healthcare providers. This educational activity is open to all healthcare providers and interested persons in the community. Nursing continuing education credits are available for attendees. On Thursday, October 18, from 5:30-9:00 p.m. the speakers include Dr. James Slaby, plastic surgeon, will present information on the various types of breast reconstruction. Dr. Arun Masih, clinical pathologist, will talk about a pathology report and what those findings mean. Dr. Linda Wang, general surgeon, will be reviewing what breast disease is and the signs and symptoms of breast disease. On Friday, October 19, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. the speakers will be Josh Wolf from Anne’s Army, who will discuss Anne’s story and the efforts that Anne’s Army has made to raise funds for breast cancer research. Mary Jicha, hospital chaplain, will present holistic care strategies for the breast cancer patient. Jean Kurtz, therapist/solo practitioner, will share techniques which can help the breast cancer patient and caregivers to manage their anxiety associated with breast cancer survivorship. Amy Rettig, clinical nurse specialist, will explain effective communication strategies which promote understanding between the partner or healthcare provider when discussing intimacy. Lastly, we will finish up the event with a breast cancer survivor panel to discuss the highs and lows of their breast cancer journey.
