    Low Energy Shockwave Therapy

Wooster Community Hospital's HealthPoint Facility is offering an emerging technology called Low Energy Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) for the treatment of chronic and painful musculoskeletal conditions. Unlike other therapies, the low-energy shock wave treatment does not require a hospital stay or visit, invasive surgery or anesthesia. During the therapy at HealthPoint, a trained healthcare professional places the shockwave medical device on the area where the patient experiences pain. Graduated increases of shockwaves, or pulses, stimulate physical, and biological changes to connective tissue that help the tissue to heal and relieve pain.

In clinical studies, Low Energy Shockwave Therapy has been an effective alternative to surgery for patients who have failed to respond to conventional therapies. This emerging technology has been approved by the FDA to treat:

  • Tennis or Golfer's elbow (Lateral or Medial Epicondylitis)
  • It has also proven to be effective in treating:
  • Shoulder Tendonitis (Rotator Cuff, Bursitis)
  • Heel Spur/Plantar Fasciitis
  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Jumper's Knee (Patellar Tendonitis)
  • Bursitis and Tendonitis of the Hip
  • Triceps Tendonitis
  • Hamstring Insertion Tendonitis
  • Wrist or Hand Tendonitis

Every connective tissue condition is unique and therapy varies. Most patients have three treatment sessions and some may receive five. Often patients notice that their condition markedly improves after one or two treatments. Others may not feel improvement until several weeks after their last treatment. In all cases, it is important to complete all treatments ordered by your doctor.

The treatment cost is $275.00 per visit.

Most insurance companies do not cover the low energy shock wave therapy at this time. The majority of our patients are seen on a self-pay basis. However, Workers Compensation coverage has been approved for this treatment on a case to case basis. We invite you to call and discuss your individual patient needs with us at 330-202-3300.
