What is Sports Specific Training?

Are you ready to take your game to the next level? Sports specific training and conditioning programs are designed for male and female athletes, grades 7 and up, who are interested in continuing development of athletic skills demanded by his/her specific sport.

The comprehensive athletic conditioning program is designed to help athletes achieve their individual goals. The sports specific training program is designed to take your game to the next level in any sport. Sports specific training can help:

  • Improve speed and power
  • Develop balance and agility
  • Help prevent sports related injuries

   
    What does the program include?
  • Pre and post program testing to determine speed, agility and power
  • Drills to improve running technique, speed and power
  • A safe and effective introduction to plyometric training
  • Exercises to improve core strength (abdominal and back)
  • Sports specific injury prevention
  • Nutritional consult monitored through a registered dietician
  • Skills: Cutting/lateral movements, quick stops, speed development, jumping power
 
  1 Individual exercise programming allows clients to take advantage of private health and wellness training as well as health screenings with degreed and certified staff.1    
       
  1 The nutritional counseling program includes evaluations with a licensed dietician, and lifestyle classes designed for children and adults.1  
     
  1 Massotherapy and infant communication classes are also offered in our specialized programming.1

    Benefits of Sport Specific Training

Several participants in the Sports Specific Program have gone on to college with scholarships in their perspective sport. Following are some of the colleges are participants have attended:

  • Basketball: Bowling Green, College of Wooster, Alfred, Otterbein
  • Soccer: Centre College, Kenyon, Grinell
  • Swimming: Eastern Michigan, Ashland
  • Track & Cross Country: YSU, Wittenberg, Miami of Ohio, Ohio University, Denison, University of Tulsa
  • Lacrosse: Ohio State, Gannon, College of Wooster, Mercy Hurst
  • Volleyball: University of Delaware, Penn State, University of Akron, High Point

The athletes meet several days per week for an hour. The program is supervised by Certified Strength and Conditioning specialist/professionals. The fee to enroll in this program is $30 per month for HealthPoint members and $50 per month for non-members.
