CPR Courses

This course, “BLS for Healthcare Providers,” is designed for healthcare professionals who must have a credential (a card) documenting successful completion of a course in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Basic Life Support (BLS). Such credentials are typically required for people who provide healthcare to patients in a wide variety of settings.

Course participants will learn how to recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, and foreign-body airway obstruction (choking).

What You Will Learn

Through discussion and practice, students learn the key changes in basic life support, reflecting the new science from the 2010 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care:

  • Critical concepts of high-quality CPR
  • The American Heart Association Chain of Survival
  • 1-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
  • 2-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
  • Differences between adult, child and infant rescue techniques
  • Bag-mask techniques for adult, child and infant
  • Rescue breathing for adult, child and infant
  • Relief of choking for adult, child and infant
  • CPR with an advanced airway

Certification / Provider Courses

New Provider classes are held in the WCH Auditorium from 12:30pm-4:45pm.  The fee for this class is $65.  Student must have a current copy of the BLS for Healthcare Providers student manual before, during and after the course, or one can be purchased at WCH for $14.

Renewal Courses

Test out sessions are held in the WCH Auditorium between 8:30am-10:30am. The fee for this class is $65 (includes access key and test out session).  Student must have a current copy of the BLS for Healthcare Providers student manual before, during and after the course, or one can be purchased at WCH for $14. A copy of a current Healthcare Provider card must be provided at registration.
