Our Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Services
Our sports medicine and orthopedic services are focused on keeping our community active and healthy, and helping you get back to doing what you love
Our orthopedics practice focuses on diagnosing, treating, and preventing conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system, including bones, joints, muscles, and ligaments. Whether you're dealing with a sports injury, arthritis, or a chronic condition, orthopedic care helps restore mobility and improve quality of life.
Our comprehensive orthopedic services include:
- Joint replacements: This includes knee, hip, shoulder, or elbow replacement, from partial knee replacements for early-stage arthritis to total joint replacements for advanced conditions. We ensure exceptional care close to home at our Joint Replacement Center.
- General arthroscopy: A minimally invasive surgical procedure used to diagnose and treat joint issues. The arthroscopy technique often results in less pain, faster recovery, and minimal scarring compared to traditional surgery.
- Anterior hip arthroscopy: A minimally invasive procedure used to diagnose and treat hip joint issues. By accessing the hip from the front, this technique minimizes muscle disruption, reduces pain, and promotes faster recovery. It is ideal for addressing conditions like labral tears, impingements, and cartilage damage with precision and care.
- Carpal tunnel treatments: Treatment options range from non-invasive approaches like wrist splints and physical therapy to minimally invasive surgical procedures that release pressure on the median nerve, helping restore hand function and improve quality of life.
- Physical therapy: We offer an approach to recovery that helps restore strength, mobility, and function after injury or surgery. Through targeted exercises, hands-on techniques, and expert guidance, physical therapy promotes healing, reduces pain, and supports long-term wellness.
Our state-of-the-art facility is equipped to handle the full spectrum of athletic healthcare needs. We combine advanced medical technology with a personalized, patient-centered approach to ensure the best possible outcomes. Our team works collaboratively to design treatment plans that align with your specific athletic goals.

“I had complete knee replacement reformed by Dr. Steven Widmer. Everyone told me physical therapy was critical in my recovery! I have been more than impressed of the quality of individuals Wooster Ortho has in their therapy department. They work together, have very professional, and extremity knowledgeable and are a pleasure to work with during therapy.” - Kurt S.
“I recently completed physical therapy for rotator cuff injuries at Wooster Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center in Wooster. After an initial assessment, their policy, as much as possible, is to assign the patient to the same therapist for each hour long treatment session. However, because, I re-injured my shoulder in the middle of the treatment, I did get to know almost every member of the staff. I gradually realized that a great strength of the Wooster Orthopaedic program is that all of the therapist work as a team, ready to help any patient who has a question. From the initial assessment to the final treatment, I was very happy with the kind, knowledgeable care that I received from the entire staff at Wooster Orthopaedic.” - Linda B.
“I strongly recommend Wooster Orthopaedic for any rehab that you would face, each and every person is component and courteous.” - Don F.

"After 40 long years of standing for work, my left knee was worn down to bone on bone. So I went to a talk that Dr. Widmer was giving and explaining robot-arm assisted knee replacement surgery. Thanks to Dr. Widmer, the hospital staff and physical therapy I now have a new and improved knee. Three months later I'm pain free and ready to get back to the things I enjoy.” - John R
“When Eli was around eleven years old. They noticed when he sat down, he always crossed his feet with knees wide apart. Cause it hurt to push them together he couldn’t run. They took him to a chiropractor, probably around a year with no success. Then they were advised to put one leg in a sling, tied up and was on crutched for a while, no success. At thirteen they took him to Akron Children Hospital where he was diagnosis as Legg-Calve-Perthes. They did surgery on both hips and put him in a body cast, with his legs apart for six weeks. Then on a wheel chair. Later he had another surgery, but they can’t remember why (his patient aren’t living anymore, so we can’t ask them) he was laid up for around a year. he went back to Akron Children Hospital for therapy to learn how to walk again. One niece and two nephews were diagnosed as Legg-Calve-Perthes too, but they were ages 8-10. They had surgeries too. Another nephew (47) your patient in 2021 had his surgery and his sister (51) had on surgery and needs to do the other sometime. Also, our daughter (40) will need to do her one. We tell her, go to Dr. Steven Widmer, he is the Best. But she thinks it’s not bad enough yet. Exactly what Eli used to say. Eli’s surgeries lasted for 52 and 53 years. But was bothering him for a few years till he was ready to do them again. He best remembers the anesthesia and the shots. But with robot and the twilight sleep, he felt so good after surgery. So amazing “no pain” we thank God for doctors. We were so happy how his surgeries turned out. You did a SUPER Job… Thank You… And to all who helped…. Everyone was so kind and helpful. We don’t have any complains. No aching pain when it’s rainy weather. If you couldn’t have fixed it Eli would be on a wheelchair. So much to be Thankful for. Eli is back to work. Stared oh half days after six weeks. Pain Free! May God Bless you all, and help you keep up the good work. We are so amazed to see him walk without a limp…. Thanks, again for sharing your Blessings with us!
-Eli’s first hip surgery Jan 26, 2021, his second hip surgery March 29, 2022, both times we got the best care at Orrville Hospital.” - Eli & Mary S.
