Electronic Notification Requirements
On May 1, 2020, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued an Interoperability and Patient Access Rule, as part of the 21st Century CURES Act, which created a new hospital Condition of Participation (CoP) regarding electronic notification requirements at 42 CFR 482.24. This Final Rule, which will begin to be enforced May 1, 2021, amends the hospital CoPs by adding a new section (d) Electronic Notifications. This standard requires that a hospital must notify, via electronic message, a patient’s physician, or other practitioner identified by the patient as primarily responsible for their care, and all applicable post-acute care service providers and suppliers of the patient’s admission, discharge, transfer, or registration in the emergency department.
Wooster Community Hospital will be utilizing CliniSync’s Notification Services technology as an intermediary to send electronic Admission/Discharge/Transfer (ADT) notifications to applicable providers. CliniSync is Ohio’s statewide health information exchange.
Your practice may receive electronic notifications for any of your patients who are admitted, discharged, transferred, or registered to or from a WCH inpatient, observation, or Emergency Department service. If you are not currently subscribed to CliniSync’s notification service but would like to be, please contact Cathy Rich, who is a Community Project Manager from Clinisync. Upon subscribing, you will be able to receive real-time notifications for in-patient, emergency, and ambulatory events, as well as death notices. Notifications may be customized for each provider’s preferences.
