The Baxter production facility in North Carolina, which supplies 85% of Ohio hospitals with IV solutions, was severely affected by Hurricane Helene. This has led to a significant reduction in IV fluid supplies, potentially delaying surgeries at WCH. Hospital leadership is actively implementing mitigation strategies to adapt to the situation and maintain exceptional care for our community.

Bloomington Gastroenterology

Bloomington Gastroenterology

Bloomington Gastroenterology is part of Bloomington Medical Services, an affiliate of Wooster Community Hospital Health System. Providers at this office specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of issues that can affect the digestive system or gastrointestinal (GI) tract.

For more information about the gastroenterology services offered at Wooster Community Hospital, call (330) 202-5676.

Our Gastroenterology Services

Services our gastroenterologist can provide include:

  • Colonoscopy (colon cancer screening)
  • Hemorrhoid banding
  • Upper GI endoscopy
  • Video capsule endoscopy
  • And, much more

You may require our gastroenterology services if you are experiencing any signs or symptoms of the following GI disorders:

  • Acid reflux, heartburn, or GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease)
  • Cancer of the colon, pancreas, liver, etc.
  • Celiac disease
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Constipation, diarrhea
  • Diverticulosis
  • Esophagitis
  • Fecal incontinence
  • Gallbladder disease / gallstones
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Hepatitis
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Liver disease
  • Motility disorders
  • Pancreatitis
  • Ulcerative colitis (UC)
  • Ulcers

If you are experiencing abdominal pain, difficulty swallowing, or noticing blood in your stool, you should make an appointment with our gastroenterology specialist who can determine – or rule out – a GI condition as the cause of your symptoms.

If you are at increased risk for colorectal cancer, you may need to begin screening earlier and be screened more often. Risk factors include:

  • Family history of colorectal cancer
  • Personal history of colorectal cancer or certain types of polyps
  • Personal history of inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease)
  • Prior history of radiation to the abdomen or pelvic area to treat a prior cancer

If you have any of the above risk factors, it's critically important to schedule a screening colonoscopy. No referral is necessary to receive a screening – all you need to do is call us to schedule one at (330) 202-5686.

Self-Pay Package Pricing

Patient Testimonials

"Just had my 2nd endoscopy and 3rd colonoscopy ....1st with Dr friend at Wooster hospital. Best experience I've had yet. Extremely easy and all staff were very friendly."

"Dr. Friend and his staff are amazing. I am in the middle of preparing for a hiatal hernia surgery repair. A previous gastro doctor let me down and told me I had no hernia and to lose weight. Dr. Friend found my very large hiatal hernia and never once made me feel bad about my weight but instead reassured me I was far from "fat as the previous doctor told me. I am on the right path after all of these years and I cannot thank him enough."

"Dr. Friend is an incredibly charismatic, kind, and intelligent physician. His passion for Gastroenterology and improving wellness are very evident. He is easy to speak to and spends time explaining and educating his patients.  As uncomfortable as it can be to present with GI issues, Dr. Friend provides an anxiety-reducing, trusting environment for his patients’ healthcare. He is such an amazing addition to Wooster!!"

"Best and friendliest doctor than any I’ve seen. Very knowledgeable.  Speaks very clearly to his patients so they understand him"

"Dr Friend is an excellent doctor. He asks lots of questions, listens to your answers and explains things thoroughly. After suffering with gastric issues for many years and having several appointments with another 'gastric' doctor in the area that were definitely a waste of time and money, I am so happy to be referred to him. He said he would find a way to fix my issues and has done that well.
Would highly recommend him!!"

"I have received the best of care since I became a patient of Dr. Friend at Bloomington Gastroenterology."

"I had probably the best experience I've ever had with any doctor. I saw Dr. Friend, and he was amazing! He was smart, nice, and so understanding. I went to him for gastroenterology, but he knew other things to look out for concerning my other health issues."

"I love these doctors, they check for everything, and they make sure you are well taken care of and make sure everything gets taken care of.  If you have anything wrong with your stomach and they do great on everything else you need.  I want to give a big thanks to Dr. Friend, I appreciate you a lot, and your associates and your staff is amazing.  I'd give you 10 stars if I could..."
