WCH Diagnostics: Bone Densitometry
Our Bone Health Program
Wooster Community Hospital and Bloomington Medical Services have joined forces to offer comprehensive care for men and women at risk of osteoporosis. Our team of skilled and compassionate providers, led by endocrinology specialist Dr. Toni King, provides critical screenings and assessments like DEXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) scans, the gold standard when it comes to measuring bone density and determining the risk of future fractures. We also offer medication, nutritional and fall- prevention counseling, physical therapy, and more. Visit our Bone Health Program page for more information.
Bone Density Tests
Bone densitometry is an X-ray procedure that measures bone loss due to osteoporosis, a disease that causes the loss of bone mass. Bone densitometry measurement is simple, safe, noninvasive, and painless.
After menopause many women are at risk for osteoporosis. Early detection using bone density measurement is the best way to protect yourself from the potentially debilitating effects of osteoporosis. A bone density measurement will determine your bone mineral density (BMD) for the area measured.
With the use of special software, the WCH bone densitometry scan can also assess the stability of any spine fractures related to the loss of bone mass. This information will help your doctor determine if there is a need to take certain steps in protecting bone health.
