The Baxter production facility in North Carolina, which supplies 85% of Ohio hospitals with IV solutions, was severely affected by Hurricane Helene. This has led to a significant reduction in IV fluid supplies, potentially delaying surgeries at WCH. Hospital leadership is actively implementing mitigation strategies to adapt to the situation and maintain exceptional care for our community.

MRI

MRI scan of the brain

MRI

Wooster Community Hospital offers traditional cylindrical-style magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MRI is a noninvasive, state-of-the-art, tube-shaped technology utilizing a magnetic field and radio waves to produce detailed images of the inside of the human body without the use of ionizing radiation.

Wooster Community Hospital features a state-of-the-art GE short bore MRI at the hospital with a wider opening for the patient’s comfort.

How an MRI Works

An MRI works utilizing strong magnetic fields and radio waves, which produce detailed images for providers. Because an MRI utilizes magnetic fields, you may be asked to remove the following items prior to your test appointment:

  • Eyeglasses
  • Jewelry
  • Hair accessories
  • Watch
  • Wig
  • Hearing aids
  • Dentures
  • Bra
  • Piercings
  • Makeup containing metal particles

Prior to your MRI appointment at Wooster Community Hospital, one of our friendly team members may reach out to you to provide you with more information about the location in which your test will take place and how to prepare for your MRI appointment. If you do not hear from our team, we encourage you to reach out to us at your earliest convenience. At this time, we also encourage you to ask any questions you may have about your MRI scan or appointment time.

Why Do I Need an MRI?

An MRI is an advanced diagnostic imaging technique that is used to accurately diagnose a wide range of conditions affecting the internal organs, bones, and joints. There is also a special type of MRI called a functional MRI (fMRI), which produces images of blood flow to certain areas of the brain.

Additionally, MRI technology is commonly used to monitor the progression of degenerative diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Common conditions detected and monitored with MRI technology include:

  • Aneurysms
  • Bone infections
  • Breast cancer
  • Ear and eye disorders
  • Joint disorders and abnormalities
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Spinal cord injuries or disorders
  • Spinal disk abnormalities
  • Stroke
  • Tumors
  • Traumatic brain injury

MRI Service Scheduling

MRI services are offered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at Wooster Community Hospital for emergency care and inpatient care. Diagnostic studies, however, require scheduling in advance.

If you have a scheduled MRI appointment, please fill out the MRI Questionnaire. This questionnaire will require you to answer some personal questions about your medical history, your comfort in tight spaces, and if you are pregnant or breastfeeding your children. All of these questions give our expert providers more insight into how your MRI appointment will proceed.

Outpatient MRI scans are performed at:
