The Baxter production facility in North Carolina, which supplies 85% of Ohio hospitals with IV solutions, was severely affected by Hurricane Helene. This has led to a significant reduction in IV fluid supplies, potentially delaying surgeries at WCH. Hospital leadership is actively implementing mitigation strategies to adapt to the situation and maintain exceptional care for our community.

Laboratory Tests

Full-Service Lab Testing

The lab at Wooster Community Hospital is a full-service, state-of-the-art laboratory that performs more than a million individual tests each year on patients in a variety of settings such as the Emergency Department, hospitalized patients, and outpatients.

Routine and emergency laboratory testing are performed on a 24-hour basis in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, transfusion services.  Anatomic pathology services are performed Monday through Friday.  Testing not performed in-house is sent to our reference laboratory for testing.

Common Lab Testing Services

There are two common tests that are run at diagnostic laboratories – urine tests and blood tests.

Urine tests can be done for three main reasons: to diagnose a condition, to monitor the progression of a condition, or to check a patient’s overall health. Common conditions diagnosed with a urine sample include urinary tract infections (UTIs), sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and the presence of blood, white blood cells, or bacteria within the urine.

Blood tests are very common. Internal medicine doctors and primary care physicians often recommend patients get their blood drawn about once each year to ensure their health remains on track and that there are no causes for concern. Your blood screens may check for signs of high cholesterol, high blood pressure, or the presence of genetic mutations within the cells. Your provider may also recommend a blood screen be done in the event you are experiencing symptoms and have not yet received an accurate diagnosis for your condition.
