At Wooster Community Hospital there is no greater joy than bringing a new life into the world. You will receive the finest medical care available, in a setting as comfortable as your own home.
The Women’s Pavilion is the obstetrical unit at Wooster Community Hospital. It was designed with family-centered maternity care in mind, to help make your birthing experience as positive and memorable as possible.
The secure unit has dedicated staff that has advanced and ongoing education to remain current in the care of mother and baby during your stay.
The pavilion's private birthing suites includes the following features:
- Private bathrooms
- Subdued lighting
- Quiet, simulated-wood flooring
- Loveseat that folds out into a bed for the comfort of your partner or loved one
The design of our suites makes it possible to labor, deliver, recover, and care for your baby in the same room. The father or support person may visit and participate in all aspects of childbirth and baby care 24 hours a day. Healthy siblings may come and greet their new family members with the supervision of an adult. Other friends and family may visit providing they are free of any infectious illness, from 10 am - 8 pm.
The pavilion offers the following services:
- Childbirth education
- Breastfeeding support services
- Special care nursery
Welcome to Wooster Community Hospital, where we strive to make your birthing experience a special one.
Ideal for Premature Babies That Do Not Require a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
We understand that having preterm labor or a premature baby can be a stressful time, and we are thrilled to better help our families by offering more specialized neonatal care.
The Women’s Pavilion at Wooster Community Hospital partners with Akron Children’s Hospital to increase the level of neonatal care – the care of babies within the first month after they are born – available within our community. This reduces the need for families to travel and separate, seeking appropriate medical care during this critical time in a child’s life.
Level II Special Care Nursery
Our Level II Special Care Nursery is able to care for babies who:
- Were born up to 8 weeks premature (at or after 32 weeks gestation)
- Weigh at least 3 pounds, 5 ounces
- Are physically immature, such as those who have breathing problems or who are unable to properly feed
- Have blood sugar instability
If a baby has moderate or temporary breathing or eating problems or other complications, WCH has everything required to care for the child right in the Women’s Pavilion on the Wooster campus. The baby will not be transferred to Akron Children’s unless the illness is severe.
This level of care is ideal for babies whose mothers go into labor before full-term but do not require care at a high-risk delivery center or Level III neonatal intensive care unit.
The Level II unit at WCH’s Women’s Pavilion is staffed by Akron Children’s Hospital physicians, specialized nurses, and respiratory therapists, who are available 24/7 to all babies born in the Wooster Community Hospital Women’s Pavilion.
