The Baxter production facility in North Carolina, which supplies 85% of Ohio hospitals with IV solutions, was severely affected by Hurricane Helene. This has led to a significant reduction in IV fluid supplies, potentially delaying surgeries at WCH. Hospital leadership is actively implementing mitigation strategies to adapt to the situation and maintain exceptional care for our community.

Inpatient Units

WCH Inpatient Rehabilitation

The goal of inpatient rehabilitation is to help patients get back to their lives, families, and friends as quickly as possible – with quality, individualized physical rehabilitation delivered with compassion, dignity, and respect for all.

The Wooster Community Hospital inpatient rehabilitation unit is located on the fourth floor of the main campus central tower.

Referrals for inpatient rehabilitation can be initiated by physicians, patients or their families, discharge planners, and allied health professionals. In addition, a patient's stay on the unit may be covered completely or in part by Medicare or private insurance.

Inpatient Rehab Services

The WCH rehab team can provide a wide variety of inpatient rehabilitation services to hospitalized patients, including:

  • Physical Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Speech Therapy
  • Nutritional Therapy
  • Social Work

Patients receiving inpatient rehab also benefit from 24/7 rehabilitation nursing care and the oversight of a medical director who specializes in neurology and physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Working closely with each patient and their family members, the Wooster Community Hospital rehabilitation team designs a customized treatment plan that focuses on potential rather than limitations. Our progressive approach strives to meet the needs of everyone involved in the rehabilitation process, including patients and their loved ones.

Don’t take our word for it: Read what our patients have to say about their inpatient rehabilitation experience.

PERSONALIZED APPROACH TO ICU CARE

“ICU Liberation” is an approach to ICU care designed to improve communication, teamwork, family involvement, and patient outcomes. It’s the approach we take in the Wooster Community Hospital ICU.

This personalized approach focuses on:

  • Regular assessment and treatment of pain, including medication reviews for improved pain control and the management of delirium.
  • Early mobility and exercise to help prevent muscle loss due to immobilization while in the ICU, and to help improve alertness and orientation to aid in recovery. Rather than keeping patients sedated and sedentary during their ICU stay, patients are helped to walk with a ventilator. This improves healing time and reduces the risk of complications that are typical in a traditional ICU environment.
  • Family engagement and empowerment, especially in daily rounds by health care providers (doctors, nurses, rehabilitation staff, and more) for direct communication, with questions answered on the spot.

Learn more about the ICU Liberation approach.

For more information about our intensive care unit, call (330) 263-8371, or visit our care and services representative on the second floor of the patient tower at Wooster Community Hospital.
